Each year, Saskatchewan taxpayers contribute $580 million to the federal equalization program, and we have receive $0 in return. Meanwhile, provinces like Quebec receive over $11 billion annually.
Over the past 11 years Quebec has received over $100 billion in equalization payments; Saskatchewan $0.
On June 20, 2018 Premier Scott Moe announced his plan to propose his “50-50 Formula” as a way to make Equalization fairer for all provinces:
Since then, the federal government has said NO to reviewing the currently flawed program for 5 more years, and the result?
Quebec will receive $13 billion.
Meanwhile, provinces like Saskatchewan and Alberta will continue to get $0.
It’s time to change this flawed program and stand up for Saskatchewan people and our economy.
